Diagnosis

To determine appropriate treatment protocols for each patient during the consultation our physician will gather a complete medical history and perform a thorough physical examination of your legs. An ultrasound evaluation of the legs is performed looking at the venous system, thus determining the exact underlying problems causing the patient to have spider and varicose veins.

Ultrasound and Doppler study of the veins determine the blood flow and the function of valves inside the veins of the legs. In a vast majority of patients there is a mechanical problem with one or more valves. Normally the valves open and close to allow blood through in and upward direction only. The defective valves however let the blood leak down in the wrong direction, thus leading to stagnation of blood that causes varicose and spider veins.
